‘Tis the season of gratitude… that inspiring time of year when we reflect on everything that came and went over the past 12 months. We are wrapping up the year’s bookkeeping, putting a bow on gifts for loved ones and setting our sights for 2016. I love this time of year. It allows me to adjust my course, as John Dillon talks about so well in his book the 20-20 Creativity Solution. I know many of you have read it and use the practices he discusses in it daily. It’s about conscious creation, and taking actions that bring us to a place of more connection and rapport with our world. In the face of mass shootings, attacks based in biases I find difficult to understand, it is a challenge to envision myself as a bringer of peace on the larger stage. And that is exactly what we all are. As Creatives, we are wagers of peace, and we celebrate our commitment to being the bearers of peace, in the face of anger and seemingly senseless actions of violence. For me this is where the rubber meets the road.
In his forthcoming book Pivot, Adam Markel, a dear friend and mentor to both John and me, outlines the importance of personal growth and expression, so that we can be the light, and bear witness to the potential in our fellow travelers here by waging peace everyday.
Can you imagine a world where every morning, no matter what, each person on the planet, started their day with the words, “I Love My Life.” and in the next step (toward the coffee pot, the guitar, the page or the meditation cushion or my case all four) expressed gratitude for at least 10 things before they start their day? Can you see it? waves of gratitude rolling out of every home, world wide. four simple words. I love my life. And I love yours too. Adam and his wife Randi, have a mission. Bring about peace through self actualization. and I know it sounds like a huge undertaking. It all starts with one breath in, and a simple statement of “I love my life.”
John and I have been broadcasting the healing gifts that engaging in your personal Creative Expression brings into our world, and in the Markel’s and their organization New Peaks we have found kindred spirits. The book Pivot comes out February 2 and is available for pre-order at artofthesong.org/shop for just the cost of shipping.
